The Geological Survey of NSW has taken a leap forward in sustainability with the installation of state-of-the-art solar panels at its WB Clarke Geoscience Centre in Londonderry.
The core library is now cladded with 277 solar panels covering one-fifth of the 472sqm roof, generating 99.97 megawatts of electricity.
This innovative project is expected to meet up to 75 per cent of the core library’s yearly energy needs, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
It’s the latest milestone in the core library’s journey towards greener operations for the flagship resource hub, which specialises in the exploration and study of geological core samples.
Previous initiatives include the adoption of electric forklifts, the roll-out of energy efficient LED lighting, and the installation of cutting-edge LED lights in the main core viewing area.
This demonstrates the Geological Survey and NSW Resources’ long-held commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship in line with the NSW Government’s climate action and net-zero plans, leading by example for industry and other government agencies.
